Yesterday at the BRSCC Mazda “Night of Champions” Awards ceremony, the provisional 2020 calendar was announced for the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Championship.

In a significant change to previous calendars, Brands Hatch will no longer provide the season opener, with Silverstone International now taking up the mantle. We’ll instead be visiting Brands in mid-May.

Notable by its absence is Cadwell Park, a track at which I scored points in all 3 races in 2019, so that’s a shame – but I am excited about the prospect of racing at Croft, which returns to the calendar, and following a disastrous set of races at Donington Park GP in 2019, I am pleased to see the more familiar National layout return!

With the unpopular Pembrey track also dropping off the calendar, Silverstone gets to host a second event, bookending the season with both the opening and closing rounds. Though it’s one I’ve never driven as a driver, I’ve been to watch races there so many times I’ve lost count, and I know it’ll be a sensational one for spectators.

Note that this calendar is only provisional at present, but it’s a clear indication of where we’re likely to be racing so whilst it might not officially be set in stone, I can start planning my season around these venues and dates.
